My father was always taking photos of us as kids. It’s the kind of thing I did not notice as a child, but the evidence is there in the mountain of photographs stored in plastic boxes at my mother’s house. Inadvertently, this was probably my first exposure to seeing how lighting and composition can make or break a photo. I love taking pictures of my family even though they are digital prints. To quote comedian Demetri Martin, “The digital camera is a great invention because it allows us to reminisce. Instantly.”
I love the continuous shooting mode on my camera. It allows me to capture action shots with fairly good details. Summer was a great time to practice with this shooting mode, hence the many photographs of my family (and four legged friends) jumping into bodies of water. Continuous shooting also captures abstract details, like individual drops of water suspended in mid-air. With fast moving subjects, this mode, by far, works the best to freeze a moment in time.
