Handmade, nearly cost-free projects for do-it-yourself types

I love re-purposing recycles or other material destine for the curbside pick-up into functional art pieces. Garage sales and thrift stores also provide a variety of old objects just waiting for new life.

Magazine Beads

Cut magazine pages into 1″ wide strips, roll around a tooth pic and glue shut. Apply modge-podge or other clear sealant on outer surface of beads and let dry. Remove tooth pic and use beads for jewelry making.

Accordion photo book, a handmade gift for my father

I gathered photographs from the past several years of my niece and nephew (my father’s two grandchildren) and glued them to some scrap pressed cardboard I had laying around. I hinged the pages together with zebra print paper and hot glued a zebra print ribbon to the front and back cover to make a tied-bow closure.
